Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of Game Stop's business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming. The role involves ensuring product visibility, building sales through gaming knowledge, maintaining a clean environment, and fostering guest loyalty.
This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service: promptly greet guests, respond to inquiries quickly and courteously, assist with gaming needs, inform about special promotions, recommend additional items, apply all selling behaviors during every transaction, and prioritize guests over tasks.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business.
- Promptly and accurately process guest purchases/returns using the POS computer system.
- Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone; answer calls promptly and professionally, escalating issues to the Store Manager as appropriate.
- Promote Game Stop’s guest benefits, such as new title reservations, trade‑in, and Pro Rewards loyalty programs.
- Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training store associates in company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Observe associate performance, provide feedback to the Store Manager, and address performance issues as directed.
- Provide timely recognition and feedback to all store associates; record written feedback in the Workday HR system.
- Ensure all new associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before working shifts.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to schedule associates, ensuring guideline compliance and adequate staffing for optimal guest service.
- Approve payroll, record paid time off, edit time, and verify that associates are paid for all time worked.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all store areas, including restrooms, and keep fixtures and equipment in proper working order.
- Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
- Protect company assets through effective inventory control and loss prevention practices, including scam awareness and safety best practices.
- Support the team in exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals and complete required administrative and operational duties.
- Perform store inventory counts, restock merchandise, and ensure all products are represented, organized, and alphabetized on the sales floor.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals accurately in the POS system; complete closeout paperwork, bank deposit slips, and ensure sufficient cash and change for transactions.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies, record findings, and communicate with the Store Manager or District Manager.
- Process defectives/recalls and stock pulls promptly, labeling all boxes and including packing lists.
- Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety; identify and address hazardous situations promptly; report injuries per company guidelines.
