CARPENTER​/LOCKSMITH

Description

Performs difficult skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction of wooden and related structures in City buildings and other facilities, by performing the following duties

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.

* Responsible for the maintenance and safety of the carpentry shop;

* Plans, lays out, designs carpentry projects; estimates and requisitions required materials;

* Supervises and performs rough and finished carpentry;

* Installs new and replaces and repairs wooden structures and equipment such as doors, windows, roofs, floors, benches, desks, chairs and playground equipment;

* Designs and constructs small buildings, cabinets, shelving, counter tops, bulletin boards and platforms;

* Installs and repairs steel and wooden fencing, steps and railings;

* Provides locksmithing needs by making duplicate keys, replacing locks, installing new locks, trouble shooting lock problems, and maintaining locksmith shop (equipment, keys, security files, key-date files, etc.);

* Responds to emergency calls on nights and weekends as required;

* Performs assigned tasks during natural emergencies such as snow removal and storms;

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Paints and/or finishes City structures or equipment;

* Trains subordinate workers;

* Assists in support of City special events;

* Installs, replaces, and repairs locks.

* Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.

* When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Completion of high school and extensive experience in carpentry work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

* Possession of a valid Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and an acceptable driving record that meets City criteria.

* Must be willing to obtain a CDL within 12 months of employment, paid for by the City.

* Relevant background check must be completed and approved.

* Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
