Position: Plumber I

The Plumber I, is responsible for planning and performing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing systems.

Maintains the inspection backflow preventer and boilers database.

Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

As Essential Personnel you are expected to be available in theevent of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents.

Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling,salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions,especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest,orientations, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps,amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year.

Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours asemergency needs arise.

Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Plumber Technician III/ Lead and/or Plumbing Supervisor.

Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE ) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of the Plumber I, including but not limited to;protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toedboots with slip resistant soles, respirators/masks, reflectivesafety vests, and sunscreen.

Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPEif operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs.

Working knowledge of all plumbing systems; ability to install,repair and maintain all types of plumbing systems.

Responsible for performing such tasks as unclogging, stopped upsinks, toilets and other plumbing fixtures.

Install various types of plumbing fixtures.

Follows direction from Master Plumber/ Supervisor.

Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings, using couplings,clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, orsoldering, brazing and welding equipment.

Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observepressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.

Read blueprints and drawings to determine exact specifications and where plumbing system will be installed.

Keep records of assignments and produce detailed workreports.

Locate and mark the position of pipe installations,connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels. Determine water supply networks and waste drainage systems.

Coordinate with project manager on installation.

Install systems used to transport water, waste, gases, orliquids.

Ensure legislation and policies are met and that systems are upto code.

Ensure systems meet all standards of building codes andsafety.

Cut openings in structures in preparation for pipes.

Select all materials needed for installation, including typeand size of pipe.

Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures, and equipment.

Assemble and install valves and fittings.

Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings, using couplings,clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, orsoldering, brazing and welding equipment.

Installs other plumbing equipment, such as sinks, tubs,toilets, water heaters, air conditioners, appliances, and trimunder Supervision.

Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle.

Observe pressure gauges to fix leaks.

Test pipe systems and fix leaks.

Repair and maintain water treatment equipment.

Perform scheduled maintenance.

Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance are properlysized, aligned, supported and grade.

Complies with all applicable health and safety regulations,policies, and established work practices.
