POSITION: Risk Management Insurance & Procurement Specialist

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Finance and Human Resources

ABOUT US: The New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority (NJSEA) is a state agency responsible for the infrastructure, safety, and security of major venues such as Met Life Stadium, American Dream Mall, and the New Meadowlands Racetrack. Our mission is to support the operation of these facilities, drive development and economic growth in the surrounding areas, and oversee regional planning and waste management.

POSITION OBJECTIVES: The Risk Management, Insurance & Procurement Specialist will oversee insurance programs, manage claims, liaise with agency departments to ensure contracts and bidding documentation are accurate and compliant with state requirements and applicable grant regulations when necessary. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys analytical work, cross-department collaboration, and process improvement.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Assess the organization’s insurance needs and recommend appropriate coverage.
  • Identify, analyze, and evaluate risks that could impact operations or assets.
  • Manage the procurement and renewal of insurance policies with broker.
  • Review insurance contracts and policy terms to ensure adequate protection and compliance.
  • Prepare reports on insurance coverage, premiums, and claims for senior management.
  • Maintain accurate records of all insurance policies, claims, and certificates of insurance.
  • Liaise with brokers, third-party administrators, and legal counsel on claims handling.
  • Oversee and coordinate the claims process from notification to resolution.
  • Partner with legal to ensure insurance clauses are appropriate in contracts and projects.
  • Collaborate and communicate with internal management regarding insurance matters.
  • Assist management with writing the main body of request for proposals (RFPs).
  • Address and review all sections of the RFPs to ensure compliance with state requirements and guidelines related to procurement of goods and services as well as professional services.
  • Manage proposal process by tracking deadlines, managing documents, and ensuring timely submission.
  • Support audits relating to insurance, risk management, and procurement.
  • Develop form procurement documents for agency-wide use.
  • Work directly with state agency departments to resolve purchasing and procurement issues on an as-needed basis.
  • Provide support and assist in the periodic review and revision of the agency procurement manual.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Advanced degree in business, law or government administration preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience with management of insurance procurement or insurance program oversight required.
  • Prior experience with state or federal government procurement strongly preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills a must.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail is vital.
Additional Information
  • NJ residency is required (within one year of employment).
  • Salary range: $95,000 to $120,000 annually.
