Overview
Emerging Store Manager role s position involves leading customer service and front-end operations, supporting store and pharmacy operations, and driving store performance.
Responsibilities- Supervise customer service associates and designated hitters; manage front-end operations and support overall store operations in collaboration with the Store Manager.
- Lead and manage store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure engagement and accountability.
- Engage customers and patients, resolve complaints, provide coaching and training to improve front-end and pharmacy customer service, and pursue solutions that exceed expectations.
- Collaborate with external partners to support community outreach and pharmacy operations; leverage data and team input to make fact-based decisions and monitor impact.
- Supervise store cash handling, inventory (front end and pharmacy), pricing changes, and adherence to inventory procedures; ensure safety, security, and compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure store interior and exterior are clean, well-maintained, and that systems and software are understood by team members; respond to emergencies as needed.
- Coordinate with Store Manager and District Manager to implement operational feedback and maintain high standards of store presentation and performance.
- Independently analyze financial and performance data; create action plans to achieve business deliverables.
- Use operating statements and KPIs to drive improvements; identify sales opportunities and growth initiatives in collaboration with the Store Manager.
- Support Pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary.
- Lead and train team members; provide coaching, development, and performance management; handle discipline and, when appropriate, termination decisions.
- Assign responsibilities, set goals, monitor performance, and recognize achievements; build talent pipelines and staffing plans to ensure store coverage.
- Ensure compliant recruitment, record retention, and training aligned with company policy and laws; foster accountability through clear expectations and performance management processes.
- Complete Store Manager learning and development program; pursue required courses and certifications as directed by leadership.
- Monitor personal performance, seek feedback, and maintain an Individual Development Plan; obtain and maintain required licenses as applicable.
- Maintain regular communication with the team through one-on-one discussions and group meetings; respond to questions and concerns promptly.
- Assist Store Manager in planning and communicating company and store strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree with a solid academic record, or satisfactory completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program, or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience (no direct reports required).
- Demonstrated leadership, professional ethics, self-motivation, strong communication, and business acumen.
- Completion of Store Manager training program (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials training within 12 weeks of start date (for ESM role placed on/after June 1, 2021).
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule including extended days, evenings, and weekends; willingness to relocate if promoted to Store Manager; ability to transfer within Walgreens assets in the same hiring area.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Internal candidates: management experience across front-end and pharmacy; external candidates: business majors or retail/food industry experience.
