Overview
Store Protection Specialist at Ross Stores, Inc. This role provides a visible presence at store entrances/exits, mitigates theft and fraud, and maintains a safe and secure environment for associates and customers.
The Specialist makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all customers in a courteous manner, deterring theft by demonstrating command presence in a company issued vest and required attire, and monitoring the Code 50 package inspection policy. Works with Store Leadership to ensure compliance with Loss Prevention directives and minimization of operational shortage. Embraces company values and has a mentality to protect the Ross treasure.
EssentialFunctions
- Maintains a safe and secure environment by prioritizing safety and practicing safe behaviors, assisting Store Leadership in safeguarding both associates and customers.
- Provides visible command presence, including greetings with eye contact at store entrances/exits and on the sales floor, in company attire, monitoring for safety issues.
- Removes clutter and ensures safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
- Provides great customer service by greeting customers, making eye contact, and answering questions in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Treats all customers and associates with respect; demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognizes associates through company recognition programs.
- Establishes regular involvement with internal and external partners, which may include conference calls and district meetings, educating associates and providing recognition.
- Supports Loss Prevention initiatives and other duties as assigned to minimize shortage.
- Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
- Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with company dress code.
- Monitors entrances/exits and sales floor for potential theft by identifying suspicious behavior.
- Gathers theft indicators and uses available information to impact shortage trends; communicates effectively with Store Leadership and Loss Prevention Leadership.
- Adheres to company policy for external theft response.
- Maximizes productivity by following Best Practices and minimizing unnecessary steps and touches.
- Increases store awareness of effective processes to minimize operational shortage and trains associates on shortage reduction initiatives.

- High School education or equivalent required; AA degree preferred.
- One year of retail supervisor experience or similar training preferred.
- One year of loss prevention/security training preferred.
- Active Security Guard License preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with the store team.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proven ability to effectively resolve conflict.
- Ability to comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations for security positions, including background screening, physical examination, fingerprinting and/or drug and alcohol testing.
- Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
- Must be able to raise or lower objects more than 25 lbs. and perform upward lifting.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, or crouch; frequency and duration vary with daily business needs.
