Cranleigh STEM is exclusively recruiting for an established British engineering company specialising in residential and commercial air-source heat-pump systems.
This newly created role will lead the development of the company’s next generation of commercial products, taking projects from concept through testing, certification, production and commercial launch.
This is not a maintenance, production or quality engineering position. It offers genuine technical ownership, considerable autonomy and the opportunity to become a key technical leader within a growing engineering business.
The roleWorking closely with senior management, suppliers, test laboratories and notified bodies, you will:
- Lead new product development projects from concept to commercial launch.
- Develop commercial units based on existing heat-pump technology.
- Design and improve electrical, mechanical and performance test rigs.
- Plan and manage product testing, verification and validation.
- Manage CE and UKCA conformity assessment activities.
- Produce technical files, risk assessments and compliance documentation.
- Work with notified bodies and certification laboratories.
- Improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
You will be an experienced product development engineer with approximately 10 years or more of relevant experience and a proven record of taking engineered products through testing, certification and production.
Essential experience should include:- CE and UKCA conformity assessment
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
- Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
- Product risk assessments and technical files
- Product testing, validation and verification
- Working with notified bodies or certification laboratories
Heat-pump experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Relevant backgrounds could include electrical equipment, industrial machinery, renewable energy, automotive, domestic appliances, medical devices, pumps, process equipment, industrial automation, or test and measurement.
You will be practical, commercially aware and able to translate engineering ideas into safe, compliant and commercially viable products. Leadership experience or the potential to progress into a broader technical leadership role would also be beneficial.

Due to the practical nature of the work, this is a fully on-site position in Lytham St Annes. Relocation may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
