Are you calm, understanding, and passionate about helping children with additional needs reach their full potential?

Academics is currently seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil with autism at a warm and welcoming primary school in the Macclesfield area. The pupil experiences challenges with communication and is working below age-related expectations within a specialist provision room, so we are looking for someone patient, consistent, and confident. This role involves providing structured, nurturing support four days per week, helping the pupil to feel safe, understood, and ready to engage in learning.

The school is a friendly and inclusive setting, where staff work closely as a team and genuinely care about each child. You'll be joining a supportive environment where your role will make a meaningful difference every day.

What you'll be doing
  • Providing 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with autism
  • Using calm communication strategies and alternative communication methods (e.g. visuals, gestures, PECS if applicable)
  • Supporting the pupil with emotional regulation, transitions, and routines
  • Helping them access learning tasks alongside the class teacher and SENCO
  • Creating a consistent, structured and reassuring presence throughout the school day
This role is ideal if you
  • Have experience working with children with autism or communication needs
  • Are patient, empathetic, and able to remain calm in challenging moments
  • Understand how to build trust gradually and respectfully
  • Have worked as a TA, support worker, youth worker, or in a care/child-centred role
  • Are committed to providing reliable, long-term support for the child's development
Why work with Academics?
  • Competitive weekly pay
  • PAYE pay (no umbrella deductions) inclusive of holiday pay
  • Friendly support from a dedicated consultant
  • Hassle free online time sheets
  • Access to a variety of schools across Cheshire
  • Refer a friend bonus - earn up to £125 per successful referral
Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Experience supporting SEND, particularly autism
  • Relevant TA qualification is beneficial but not essential

Ready to support a child who will truly benefit from your care and consistency? Apply today and our team will be in touch to guide you through the next steps.

Academics is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. An Enhanced DBS and suitable references are required.
