Heritage & Conservation Officer needed in Macclesfield Paying £17.79 per hr

Full time hours on a temporary basis

Key Responsibilities
  • Heritage and Conservation Advice
    Provide specialist advice on listed buildings, conservation areas, heritage assets, archaeology and historic landscapes across a range of development proposals and projects.

  • Assessment of Planning Applications
    Assess planning, Listed Building Consent and related applications, offering clear recommendations to ensure proposals preserve or enhance heritage significance.

  • Conservation Area Management
    Assist in the review, appraisal and management of existing conservation areas, and support the preparation of new designations where appropriate.

  • Heritage Statements & Impact Assessments
    Review heritage statements, impact assessments and related documentation, ensuring they meet professional standards and accurately interpret heritage significance.

  • Project Leadership
    Lead or support heritage‑focused projects including building conservation initiatives, character appraisals, design guidance, and public engagement activities.

  • Design and Place‑making Support
    Promote high‑quality design in historic areas, working with architects, developers and planners to secure contextually appropriate and sustainable development.

  • Heritage at Risk
    Contribute to the identification, assessment and monitoring of heritage at risk, proposing actions or strategies to support their future conservation.

  • Partnership & Community Engagement
    Work closely with internal teams, heritage groups, architects, local communities, building owners and other stakeholders to support shared heritage objectives.

  • Policy and Guidance
    Support the development of heritage policies, design guidance and other documents related to historic environment management.

  • Monitoring and Research
    Keep up to date with changes in legislation, policy, best practice and technical guidance relating to historic buildings and conservation.

  • Public and Professional Advice
    Provide advice and guidance to colleagues, clients, community groups and property owners on heritage conservation issues and best practice.

  • Documentation & Reporting
    Prepare reports, recommendations and presentations for internal use, consultations, committees and stakeholder groups.
