Working across a 7 day period Mon‑Sun (3×5.5 hr shifts 1300‑1830 or 4×4 hr shifts). The post‑holder will work as an integral part of the Ward team. You will be expected to be involved in enhancing the patient experience. The housekeeper should relate to all care disciplines to ensure the provision of a high quality and safe environment for service users, including some cleaning, assisting with meal service, minor maintenance and any other specified tasks as identified by the Ward Management Team.

The Trust currently supports the Real Living Wage (RLW) hourly rate as set by the Living Wage Federation and will apply a pay supplement if the national A4C hourly rate falls below this.

All new starters will commence in post on one fixed start date each month, in line with our Prepare to Care (P2C) induction programme. P2C offers up to 3 weeks training to support you to meet the induction/initial training requirements of the role.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020. A disclosure submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service will be required.

Compensation: the Trust applies a pay supplement if the national A4C hourly rate falls below the Real Living Wage. Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check; costs are deducted from salary following appointment. A small annual fee of £16 per year applies for the DBS Update Service.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining cleaning standards on the Ward, including specialist cleaning of surfaces and furnishings, and check that all jobs on the cleaning checklist are completed.
  • Ensure general and specialist equipment (e.g. wheelchairs/hoists) are cleaned as per cleaning policy and batteries checked.
  • Ensure all areas of the Ward are maintained and are safe and tidy at all times.
  • Identify any problems with cleanliness and report to the Ward Manager.
  • Maintain a hygienic environment including communal areas and patients' bedrooms/bathrooms.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality with regard to all patient issues.
  • Maintain upkeep of patient and ward areas.
Essential Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 1 cleaning or equivalent experience.
  • Care/hospitality supervision and cleaning, equivalent experience.
  • Basic Food Hygiene.
  • Working towards or willing to achieve NVQ up to Level 3 through training and ward induction.
Desirable Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 in cleaning.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Care.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Good basic knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety, including infection control.
  • Customer service, internal and external.
  • Effective communication with patients, their families and carers.
  • Effective teamwork, appreciating the roles of other staff and agencies involved in the care of patients.
  • Full understanding and respect for the rights and feelings of patients and their families, seeking out and addressing their needs.
  • Responsibility for some financial handling.
  • Organisation skills.
  • Knowledge/experience of cooking for a number of people.
  • To be able to train others in Housekeeping duties.
  • Previous NHS experience.
