Assistant Professor of Geographic Information Sciences

Western Illinois University invites applications for a tenure‑track appointment as Assistant Professor of Geographic Information Sciences, beginning August 20, 2026, in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Geographic Information Sciences.

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in GIS and remote sensing.
• Conduct research and publish scholarly work.
• Direct graduate students and supervise undergraduate research projects.
• Engage in service to the university and the surrounding community.
• Partner with the GIS Center to advance interdisciplinary initiatives.

• Earned doctorate in Geographic Information Science, Geography, or a related field by the appointment date; ABD is acceptable if the degree is completed before start.
• Experience in innovative teaching practices, including technology‑enhanced instruction and delivery of courses in face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• Evidence of creative and innovative contributions to GIS research.
• Familiarity with remotely sensed GIS data.
• Oral and written proficiency in English.
• Degree conferred by a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or equivalent).

Tenure‑track, nine‑month appointment. Monthly salary: $7,242.
