Job Summary: This position ensures the safety of patrons of the Middle Georgia State University aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies during the months of pool operation.

• Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility, acting immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Maintains a professional appearance and attitude at all times and upholds a high standard of customer service.
• Performs various maintenance duties as directed to keep the facility clean and safe.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
• Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned by the head lifeguard or Director.

• Must be a current enrolled Middle Georgia State University student.
• Must be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours per semester.
• Must have a GPA of 2.0 or greater.
• This position requires certification as a lifeguard by the American Red Cross within 30 days of hire.
• Must have American Red Cross CPR and AED certification within 30 days of hire.

• Knowledge of university rules and procedures.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
• Skill in the application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
• Ability to competently complete related logs and paperwork.
• High quality customer service skill.
