District

Attorney Legal Assistant (S)

The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 43, Macon County, seeks a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to the prosecutors.

Salary Range

$39,731.00 - $65,611.00

Description of Work

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • answer phones
  • assist the public
  • type correspondence
  • prepare legal documents
  • prepare files
  • assist victims and witnesses understand and prepare for court
  • gather information to assist in the prosecution of cases
  • and other duties as assigned
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

/ Competencies

Knowledge of: court system and procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses.

Skill in:
Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm; and answering a multi-line telephone system.

  • interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to assure appropriate services
  • coordinate and schedule the daily operations of the victim and witness program
  • manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed
  • communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies and the general public
  • and calmly handle stressful situations
Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience.
