Overview

Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus public institution, is offering a part-time Clinical Instructor position in Respiratory Therapy. The role provides clinical supervision to MGA Respiratory Therapy students placed in area healthcare facilities and laboratories.

Responsibilities
  • Instructing (80%)
    • Direct supervision of Respiratory Therapy students in the clinical setting.
    • Provide and/or coordinate clinical teaching activities in hospital/clinical settings, including student assignments, supervision, and evaluation.
    • Participate in skill lab demonstrations and practice.
    • Provide and coordinate clinical teaching activities in the community as needed.
    • Contribute to a collegial and collaborative work environment.
    • Work with students in patient care areas to assist them in meeting clinical objectives.
    • Mentor students regarding clinical progression.
  • Monitoring (15%)
    • Evaluate students on professional behavior (appearance/dress code, attitude, cooperation, communication skills).
    • Plan and conduct regular student conferences.
    • Engage and nurture students in and beyond the classroom.
    • Ensure students are meeting clinical objectives.
    • Complete and collate clinical evaluations at clinical sites.
    • Report student progress to the Director of Clinical Education (DCE).
    • Document student absences, clinical incidences, disciplinary problems, and changes in site activities.
    • Use the MGA Respiratory Therapy clinical assessment system for time clocking and evaluation.
  • Other Duties (5%)
    • Adhere to assigned clinical and laboratory schedules.
    • Maintain professional relationships with community and clinical sites and provide student lists to clinical agencies.
    • Serve on the Respiratory Therapy Program advisory committee.
    • Participate in professional workshops and conferences to promote growth and improve the program.
Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree required
  • Other

    Required Qualifications:

    RRT credential; current state RCP license; current AARC membership; must meet all regulatory qualifications; must attend orientation and professional development as required; position requires travel to clinical sites
Preferred Qualifications
  • Educational Requirements:

    Master of Science degree preferred
  • Other

    Required Qualifications:

    Current CPR certification; ACLS, NRP, and PALS preferred
  • Preferred Experience:

    Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in respiratory therapy; prior teaching experience preferred; experience in adult, neonatal, and pediatric critical care preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • A personal and professional commitment to quality instruction
  • English reading, writing, and speaking at native level
  • Ability to utilize technology and innovative pedagogy to enhance teaching and learning
  • Understanding of and commitment to working with students and the healthcare population
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to drive to clinical sites
  • Ability to work in the clinical setting as a respiratory therapist for 8-12 hours as scheduled
