KACE is seeking an experienced Law Clerk/Attorney I in support of one of our clients to perform complex legal research and writing on sophisticated legal issues and assist with all phases of 28 USC 2255 (habeas corpus) matters. The ideal candidate must be extremely well-organized and detail oriented, have excellent research and writing skills and is able to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Oversees practice with regard to 28 USC 2255 (habeas corpus) matters including but not limited to receiving and docketing, calendaring due dates, locating files to draft responses, submitting draft responses for review
- Analyze financial records obtained by investigating agencies through internal and external databases and submit reports documenting results when requested
- Attending to timely filing of responses
- Analyze statutes, legislative intent, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases, including those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature
- Brief attorney on pertinent facts, issues and case law
- Draft correspondence and legal documents for attorney, judge and magistrate signatures
- Determine applicable administrative statutory and regulatory law and identify violations or causes of action
- Develop an understanding of all applicable federal, state or local laws and keeps abreast of any new criminal rules and procedures
- Alert the client to all potential issues while conducting review and data analysis within case file
- Provide legal support as described to the client; the Law Clerk/Attorney I will not be allowed to appear in court to represent the United States
- Law Degree (Juris Doctor)
- State bar license
- Demonstrated ability to utilize law library resources and working knowledge of research tools (Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, Court Link)
- Demonstrated legal writing and communication skills
- Resume – 2 pages maximum
- A writing sample – 3 pages maximum
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle
- Availability to travel when necessary
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to review a variety of documents ranging from legal and non-legal to include motions, briefs, and legal correspondence
- Ability to consistently deliver the highest quality of work under extreme pressure

Security Requirements/Background Investigation Requirements- Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions
- Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility:
Must have mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees. Standing for prolonged and extended periods of time. - Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling:
Must be able to write, type and use a telephone system 100% of the time. - Sitting:
Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time.
