Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring a GA or compact RN license and advanced emergency certifications.
Responsibilities- Position based in a large hospital emergency department with Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital designation
- 61+ bed Emergency Department with additional surge capacity
- 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Weekend rotation consists of 6 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
- No on-call or floating outside the Emergency Department required
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, stroke, diabetes, mental health, and medical-surgical emergencies
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 depending on zone
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Provide direct nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency setting
- Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy, PICC team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
- Central telemetry monitoring managed within the Emergency Department
- One day facility orientation and two days departmental orientation provided
- Required to work 75% of major holidays as per scheduling guidelines
- Navy scrubs are required for RNs
- Free parking is available on campus, with paid options in parking decks
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Requests for time off must be approved by management
- Team-oriented work culture in a busy department
- Active GA or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience required
- Certifications required:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - Must pass an EKG competency exam to demonstrate basic cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Experience in Level 1 Trauma ER, including management of emergency drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
- National certification in Emergency Nursing is preferred but not required
