Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department night shift position at a major teaching hospital, requiring a GA or compact RN license and advanced life support certifications.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a busy Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department within a large teaching hospital
  • 61+ bed ED with surge capacity and high census
  • Patient acuity includes trauma, stroke, chest pain, diabetes, abdominal pain, mental health, and more
  • Typical nurse to patient ratio is 1:4, depending on ED zone
  • Shift is 12 hours, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, with a six-week schedule cycle
  • Required to work 5-6 weekend shifts out of every 12 shifts
  • Expected to work approximately 75% of holidays, including one shift for each major holiday
  • No call or floating outside the ED required
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and specialized ED equipment like rapid infusers and central telemetry monitoring
  • Responsibilities include triage, monitoring, advanced interventions, medication administration, and participation in trauma care
  • Strong team support includes CNAs, unit secretaries, phlebotomy techs, PICC team, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Orientation consists of one day facility orientation and two days departmental orientation with educational modules
  • Central telemetry tech support is available in the ED
  • Scrub color for RNs is navy
  • Free campus parking available; paid parking deck option also available
  • Unit culture is fast-paced, supportive, and collaborative
Requirements
  • Active GA or compact RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of emergency department RN experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and competency to pass EKG interpretation
  • Experience with Level 1 Trauma procedures and emergency room protocols required
  • Must be able to manage advanced drips such as Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • National emergency nursing certification is preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers are eligible
