Position: ADMISSIONS COORD/ Receptionist PRN

Responsibilities

The Admission Coordinator is the front of house who answers the hospital’s main phones, verifies insurance, obtains signatures on admitting paperwork, and processes all admitting forms. The coordinator works closely with the Intake Department, patients, and nursing units.

  • Answer the switchboard in a highly professional manner and direct all calls to the appropriate department.
  • Verify all insurances online and by phone; document eligibility, co‑pays, deductibles, and pre‑existing terms and distribute this information to Intake Coordinators.
  • Conduct the admission process with patients and families, explain each admission form, and procure signatures. Process, copy, and distribute all forms to the appropriate departments in a timely manner.
  • Document in the patient record that the patient has been supplied with the Patient Rights Booklet and Advance Directive information.
  • Compile and compute accurate information regarding admissions and discharges on the daily census sheet and distribute the census to all appropriate staff and departments.
  • Enter admission and discharge information into the computer program and delete entries as necessary.
  • Maintain and update the admission board for evaluations and appointments for admission.
  • Receive mail, maintain the postage machine, and post postage on all outgoing mail.
  • Maintain all machines in the admitting area and call for service when appropriate. Assist hospital staff in the use of these machines.
  • Greet the public when they arrive at the hospital and direct them to the appropriate staff and/or department.
  • Attend hospital mandatory trainings and in‑services as required in a timely manner.
  • Follow hospital expectations regarding Time and Attendance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience verifying insurance required.
  • 1–3 years of experience working in an admissions or related department required.
  • Phone/switchboard and typing/computer skills required.
  • Professional interactions with individuals, customer service focused individual with strong communication skills, ability to multi‑task and problem solve required.
  • BLS CPR required.
Physical Demands
  • Physical: 40 lbs.
  • Pushing up to 150 lbs.
  • Average % of time during regular shift devoted to standing: 0–20; walking: 0–30; squatting: 0–10; sitting: 21–40.

  • Maintains a neat, professional appearance consistent with the facility’s dress code.
