  • ASSISTANT ENGINEER: $9,942 - $12,041 PER MONTH
  • ASSOCIATE ENGINEER: $11,492 - $13,881 PER MONTH

Marin Water’s Capital Program is expanding, and so is our design team! We’re currently seeking an Assistant or Associate Engineer in the Engineering & Drafting Section of the District's Engineering Division to help drive exciting new infrastructure projects. The

District:

The District is a medium-sized, municipal, water agency with a Board of Directors/General Manager form of government, 250 full-time employees and a $143.2 million combined annual operating and capital budget. Annually, the District delivers water to over 190,000 residents and businesses in the central and southern portions of Marin County and has stewardship responsibilities for 21,000 acres of pristine watershed lands on Mt.

Tamalpais.

At the Assistant Engineer level, under direction of a responsible in charge engineer, performs professional and technical engineering work directly and indirectly related to the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of water system facilities; and performs related work as required. At the Associate Engineer level, under direction, plans, schedules, supervises and performs difficult professional and technical engineering work in the areas of planning, design, construction, and operations of the water system;

conducts studies, analyzes data and prepares reports on a wide variety of District operations; and performs related work as required. This position will be staffed at a level commensurate with the qualifications of the selected individual.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Assistant Engineer - This class is distinguished from the class of Junior Engineer by the assignment of more responsible professional tasks and the relatively greater degree of independence with which such tasks are performed. In addition, an incumbent of this class may be assigned to oversee a portion of the daily operation of the engineering office serving as the initial contact for the general public, vendors, private engineers, architects and developers.

The Assistant Engineer is further distinguished from the class of Associate Engineer in that the latter functions as a project manager and is responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Associate Engineer- This is the fully-qualified working level in the engineering series. Individuals in this class are usually project managers or have major responsibilities for system planning, design and construction, system operation and protection depending on assignment. Positions in this class are assigned complex engineering projects involving responsibility for the timely completion and sound financial management of such projects, often involving supervision of other engineering personnel and coordination with personnel and resources from other divisions throughout the District and outside entities.

Special Note for Out-of-State Associate Engineer Applicants:

The Associate Engineer level requires a valid Professional Civil Engineering License in the State of California, however Professional Civil Engineering Licenses from outside of California will be considered at the Assistant Engineering position level, with the opportunity to advance to the Associate Engineer position once the incumbent has met the requirements and has obtained the certification for Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.

At both levels, typical duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Assistant Engineer:
  • Performs professional engineering work related to the preparation of plans and specifications for pipelines, pump stations, tanks, water treatment system planning, and other water system facilities under a responsible in charge engineer;
  • directs the inspection of and may inspect contract construction for compliance with approved plans and specifications;
  • may prepare or assist in the preparation of economic and engineering planning and/or design studies;
  • assists in the long range planning of pipelines, pump stations, tanks, water treatment, and other water system facilities;
  • may serve as project engineer on construction projects;
  • may analyze and work with developers on pipeline extension requirements;
  • gathers, compiles and analyzes engineering and statistical data;
  • may prepare operational manuals and recommend procedures;
  • may provide functional direction to subordinate staff; and
