About the Facility

River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff, and administration.

Nurse Manager – Job Overview

We are currently seeking a forward-thinking and compassionate Nurse Manager to be part of our Nursing Team. The Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health practice and hospital policy, goals and objectives. The role assists in contributing to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational and performance & improvement efforts, while providing supervision of House Supervisors, RNs and MHTs.

Responsibilities

Core duties include

  • Coordinating delivery of patient care and providing patient nursing assessments as needed.
  • Participating in treatment team meetings.
  • Monitoring staffing needs on assigned shifts.
  • Assisting the CNO/ACNO in evaluating, reviewing, designing and implementing hospital training events for all RN/MHT staff.

Standards of Performance

  • Leadership
    • Ensure all staff deliver care in accordance with Standards of Care and Practice.
    • Implement unit policies and procedures and act as a resource to staff.
    • Ensure unit compliance with The Joint Commission, OSHA, state and regulatory standards and patient rights standards.
    • Evaluate program effectiveness and formulate plans for improvement.
    • Develop staffing schedules for full-time staff in accordance with patient needs.
    • Provide education, orientation and in‑services when clinical knowledge deficits are identified.
    • Create, post and maintain the Department of Nursing Master Schedule.
  • Treatment Planning
    • Prioritize and formulate a plan of care based on patient assessment and policy.
    • Assist in developing specific, measurable goals, objectives and interventions for each patient.
    • Update and revise plans when goals or patient condition change.
    • Document the treatment plan, nursing interventions and patient responses.
    • Assign and direct personnel in implementing nursing care plans and verify patient care through observation and chart review.
  • Teaching
    • Provide education to patients and families based on identified needs, communication, interpersonal and social skills, and basic principles of physical health.
    • Promote learning experiences and provide educational materials.
    • Provide and document discharge instructions including food and drug interactions, diets and activities.
    • Evaluate and document effectiveness of patient teaching.
    • Allow patients and families to discuss and explore feelings about prescribed therapies and interventions.
  • Milieu
    • Assure patients are adequately oriented to the unit.
    • Monitor unit activity and encourage patient participation.
    • Prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care during hospitalization.
    • Maintain a structured therapeutic environment collaboratively with patients and other health‑care providers.
    • Consistently utilize universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines.
    • Serve as a role model to promote health communication.
  • Intervention
    • Apply communication, interviewing techniques and problem‑solving and crisis intervention skills during psychotherapeutic interventions.
    • Base interventions on knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures and the plan of care.
    • Safely administer medication.
    • Transcribe and carry out treatment orders accurately.
    • Use appropriate interventions in psychiatric and medical emergencies.
Qualifications
  • Education – Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in nursing management;
    Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Experience – Minimum of one (5) years of progressive nursing leadership experience, staff education experience, and 24‑hour shift staffing experience.
  • Licensure – Current license to practice by the California State Board of Nursing.
