The Assistant Manager, Conveyance supports the department manager in developing and managing overall production planning activities for the plant. This position focuses on maximizing customer service, on-time delivery, production utilization, material control, inventory control, and purchasing activities.
The role is responsible for supporting the receiving and material flow operations that supply parts to production lines. The Assistant Manager will help ensure efficient material availability, minimize production interruptions, and develop processes that support the plant's operational and growth objectives.
Essential Functions- Ensure the safety of yourself and others by following all safety policies and procedures and wearing required PPE.
- Manage inventory levels, including establishing inventory goals, rotating stock, managing purchasing and supply base activities, and developing related methods and procedures.
- Develop long-range planning initiatives for the production control group by continuously evaluating plant needs, capacity, capital requirements, expenses, and other factors necessary to support growth.
- Establish effective communication with customers, business development, production, and other internal groups to ensure on-time delivery and team support.
- Minimize interruptions to production schedules through effective parts and materials procurement practices.
- Assist with planning the operating budget for areas of responsibility.
- Provide training and development opportunities for Conveyance team members to strengthen current and future performance capabilities.
- Maintain and develop network systems that provide access to plant manufacturing systems, streamline information, and generate reports.
- Support receiving and material flow activities to ensure parts are properly received and delivered to production lines.
- Monitor material availability and inventory levels to help prevent shortages and production downtime.
- Support JIT/Kanban material flow processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Remain flexible and assist in other areas and duties as needed to support departmental goals and objectives.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or 4 years of equivalent work experience or training.
- Proficiency with computers and software applications.
- 2–3 years of supervisory experience in a production environment, preferably within the automotive industry.
- Working knowledge of plant logistics, receiving, inventory control, and material flow processes.
- Experience with JIT/Kanban systems.
- Experience with Plex or other manufacturing ERP systems.
- Experience in automotive manufacturing or a similar high-volume production environment.
- Work is performed in an industrial office and plant environment.
- Frequent movement throughout the industrial plant with exposure to high noise levels and equipment commonly used in stamping, welding, and E-coat environments.
- Strong focus on workplace safety is required.
- Ability to lift up to 33 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking on the plant floor.
- Ability to safely operate Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) equipment.
- Ability to traverse the entire plant facility.
