Job Title
Mechanic Diesel Technician – Senior Level (Permanent, Full Time)
LocationBakersfield, California
Position DescriptionImmediately hiring a permanent full‑time senior level diesel technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Bakersfield, California.
Compensation- Hourly Pay: $30.00 per hour
- Certification bonus up to $700 per new ASE certification obtained
- Quarterly bonus up to $500 per quarter
- Sign‑on bonus: $1750 after 30 days and $1750 after 90 days
- Schedule:
Monday – Saturday, one day off during the week - Hours:
First shift 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
- Annual merit pay increases

- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties: standard and preventive maintenance, diagnosing complex mechanical and electronic problems, completing detailed inspections and repairs, replacing defective components.
- Perform facility maintenance duties.
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints.
- Use shop management system and electronic documentation.
- Comply with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines.
- Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels.
- Access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
- Other support duties as required (e.g., Service Island support).
- SBTIII training within 180 days; complete 2 OEM online diagnostic scan tool courses within 365 days.
- Post‑secondary vocational education strongly preferred.
- Minimum tool requirement.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid CDL (license
A) highly desired; mandatory in some locations. - State license as required.
- Minimum 2 years experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply computer skills (PC, Windows, mouse).
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
- Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, background and motor‑vehicle check.
