Description

Must have experience and/or skill set appropriate for the following expectations:

  • Conduct safety related field analyses, assessments and audits, and provide coaching and feedback as needed.
  • Research, understand, interpret and apply safety regulations (including OSHA standards) and industry best-practices.
  • Make decisions and provide guidance related to safety policy/procedure adherence and/or new policy development.
  • Build relationships and foster open/effective communication with the workforce.
  • Conduct training and/or present safety-related topics in person to both large and small groups.
  • Lead/facilitate root cause analysis.
  • Create quality email communication, reports, briefs and presentations (provide examples for consideration).
  • Familiarity with office productivity computer software applications (such as Microsoft Office), email, calendar/scheduling software, and communication applications such as Web Ex/Teams.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering or industrial health, or equivalent education and/or experience. A minimum of 3-5 years in a safety role in industrial/construction (preferred) or manufacturing is required.

Additional duties and responsibilities
  • Administer and manage safety and health programs at the plant site and work with corporate safety professionals in adopting and standardizing safety and health program best practices.
  • Administer company safety rules, procedures, and advise plant personnel on OSHA safety and health regulations applicable to OVEC-IKEC facilities.
  • Provide guidance on the appropriate safety programs and coordinate the preparation and distribution of materials which are to be used for monthly safety meetings.
  • Coordinate the fire protection program including equipment oversight, maintenance coordination, upgrades, modification, and testing; assist departments with arranging for firefighting instruction; direct the inspection and maintenance of fire protection equipment.
  • Plan, schedule, assign and supervise work performed.
  • Oversee the development of department personnel through training, assessment, and observation.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating the use of training programs to strengthen the plant’s safety program.
  • Coordinate and assist with the development of accident investigation reports, surveys, inspections and root cause accident analysis for the purpose of improving plant site safety and compliance with federal and state occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Coordinate activities related to plant visits and inspections by OSHA and other safety regulatory agencies, including the remediation, documentation and reporting of corrective actions resulting from such interactions.
  • Review and assist in the preparation and/or presentation of responses to OSHA or other federal agencies by working with plant and corporate personnel.
  • Assist plant personnel in making observations of work practices and procedures to see that necessary safe practices are being followed.
  • Provide support and guidance to Safety Task Force and other Safety Committees as required.
  • Continually review all site contractors’ corporate commitment to safety, their compliance with the OVEC-IKEC Safety Manual and safety performance. Implement corrective action where necessary.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct safety orientation of new employees, contractors, and other visitors as appropriate.
  • Obtain and issue posters, manuals and other safety data; ensure that by means of displays, campaigns and similar methods, employees are made continually aware of the subject of safety and accident prevention.
  • Prepare and maintain safety records and statistics.
  • Responsible for benchmarking safety performance and recommending plant goals.
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of departmental reports.
  • Responsible for the departmental budget.
  • Assist in the development, coordination and application of the corporate and plant Strategic Business Plan.
