About Madison State Hospital:
Madison State Hospital is located in a rural area overlooking the Ohio River and has served the citizens of Indiana for over a century, opening its door to patients in 1910. As part of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network, our staff offer comprehensive treatment programs utilizing a Trauma Informed Care approach. Patients admitted for treatment can participate in individual therapy, medication therapy, family therapy, psycho-educational groups, rehabilitation therapies, chaplain services, co-occurring programming, as well as employment opportunities.
Unit-based programming is augmented with campus-wide specialty groups. MSH has been a state leader in evidenced-based medication prescribing to both reduce the risks associated with polypharmacy and optimize clinical outcomes. The hospital clinical and medical leadership collaborate with the unit treatment teams to provide the most contemporary and comprehensive care possible.
Salary Statement
:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $45,422.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Direct, instruct,and supervisepatientsin specialized activities.
- Advise and reinforcepatientson acceptable social behavior employing behavior modification or other techniques.
- Plan, schedule, execute activities for therapeutic field trips.
- Observe and documentpatientprogress, attendance, behavior, and outcomes for the individual patient sand makes recommendations regarding changes in activities.
- Assistin the care and maintenance of facilities and ordering of supplies and equipment making minor repairs on special equipment.
- Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What Youll Need for Success:You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Associate degree required (course work in art,dance,music,horticultural,occupational therapy,physical education,recreation,rehabilitation counseling,special education,vocational rehabilitation,or accredited college training in a related field).
- Six (6) months of work experience with preferred experience with persons with developmental disabilities or a group home setting.
- Specialized knowledge of standard techniques and methods of providing rehabilitation.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies related to rehabilitation therapy.
- Working knowledge of, and proper use of, special equipment or materials utilized in rehabilitation therapy.
- Working knowledge of sociology and psychology as they relate to assessing rehabilitation needs of patients.
- Working knowledge of, and ability to implement, behavior modification techniques to complement rehabilitation therapy programs.
- Ability to stimulate patient’sinterests in specialized activities.
- Ability to assess patient’sprogress and needs, changing instructional methods.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
