Summary DescriptionThe Material Team Leader supports the Material Department by coordinating material handlers, ensuring efficient material flow to production, and maintaining inventory accuracy. This role assists the Material Supervisor in managing logistics, safety, and continuous improvement efforts to support smooth plant operations. The Material Team Leader serves as a facilitator in areas of problem solving, issue resolution, 6S, and standardized work compliance.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Lead and support the material handling team to ensure timely delivery of materials to all production areas.
- Monitor material flow, inventory levels, and container usage to prevent line downtime.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies, including forklift operation, pedestrian safety, and LOTO procedures.
- Conduct and/or coordinate operator training in material handling processes and EHS standards.
- Support production by ensuring correct materials, labels, and containers are at each station.
- Communicate daily with the Material Supervisor regarding any safety, quality, or material flow concerns.
- Maintain accurate scanning and material tracking records (PFEP, QAD, etc.).
- Help Material Supervisor to coordinate back fill between shifts.
- Promote and maintain 6S standards in all material areas, docks, and warehouses.
- Participate in and support continuous improvement and efficiency projects.
- Assist with model changeovers, line support, and container organization.
- Report and investigate unsafe conditions; promote and enforce safe behaviors.
- Provide first‑level response to material issues, document problems, and follow up for resolution.
- Lead by example with a positive attitude and strong teamwork across all shifts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Material Supervisor and/or Materials Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process service orders from customers.
- Schedule and coordinate service activities with maintenance, engineer and production teams.
- Communicate effectively with customers and internal departments to ensure service expectations are met, paying special attention to shipping service and keeping records of proof of delivery.
- Support cycle counts of service parts and cycle recounts. Responsible for API service parts.
- Propose service parts to be scrapped—always maintain visibility on QAD of all service transactions.
- Support preventive maintenance of material handling equipment by ensuring timely scheduling and follow‑up.
- Track and document work completion, costs, and materials used.
- Maintain accurate records of service requests, invoices, and cost notifications.
- Must be able to perform basic math and understand how physical material movement is reflected in the QAD system.
- The person needs to be able to use Excel and the company ERP system.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Fork Truck License (certification required), including frame handling.
- Proficiency with scanners, QAD, or material tracking systems preferred.
