The Materials Team Leader supports the Materials Department by coordinating material handlers, ensuring efficient material flow to production, and maintaining inventory accuracy. This role assists the Materials Supervisor in managing logistics, safety, and continuous improvement efforts to support smooth plant operations. The Materials Team Leader serves as a facilitator in problem solving, issue resolution, 6S, and standardized work compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead and support the material handling team to ensure timely delivery of materials to all production areas.
- Monitor material flow, inventory levels, and container usage to prevent line downtime.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies, including forklift operation, pedestrian safety, and LOTO procedures.
- Conduct and/or coordinate operator training in material handling processes and EHS standards.
- Support production by ensuring correct materials, labels, and containers are at each station.
- Communicate daily with the Materials Supervisor regarding safety, quality, or material flow concerns.
- Maintain accurate scanning and material tracking records (PFEP, QAD, etc.).
- Help Materials Supervisor coordinate back‑fill between shifts.
- Promote and maintain 6S standards in all material areas, docks, and warehouses.
- Participate in and support continuous improvement and efficiency projects.
- Assist with model changeovers, line support, and container organization.
- Report and investigate unsafe conditions; promote and enforce safe behaviors.
- Provide first‑level response to material issues, document problems, and follow up for resolution.
- Lead by example with a positive attitude and strong teamwork across all shifts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Materials Supervisor and/or Materials Manager.
- Generate and submit required reports to management.
- Any other activities related to the position.
- Basic math proficiency with an understanding of how physical material movement is reflected in the QAD system.
- Experience using Excel and the company ERP system.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Strong math and ERP skills as above.

- Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Availability to work 40 hours a week plus mandatory overtime.
- Flexibility to work day or night shift as needed for back‑fill positions.
- Ability to stand for 8 to 12 hours and perform walking, bending, stooping, and climbing tasks.
- Fork Truck License (certification required).
- Proficiency with scanners, QAD, or material tracking systems preferred.
