Power System Operator
East River Electric Power Cooperative is seeking a Power System Operator to oversee operations of our electric transmission power system in the 24/7 operations center. The role requires monitoring and operating the cooperative’s electric power and load management system using SCADA and telecommunications systems. This position has a rotating shift schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays, and requires residency within 35 miles of Madison, SD.
We provide reliable and affordable wholesale power to 24 rural electric distribution cooperatives and one municipally owned system, covering a service area of 40,000 square miles. As a not‑for‑profit generation and transmission cooperative, we serve our member‑owners across eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota.

Responsibilities- Analyze system troubles and initiate necessary actions to restore normal operations.
- Write, review, and coordinate switching and dispatching operations between the Cooperative and other utilities.
- Monitor and respond to emergency calls and coordinate appropriate emergency response resources.
- Execute load control in accordance with established load management strategies.
- Analyze operational information, complete reports, and maintain records.
- A degree in electrical technology, system operations, or a related technical field.
- Five years’ experience in the operational aspects of an electric utility, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to work effectively in high‑stress situations and make timely decisions.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to develop positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer systems and MS Office products.
