SCC Graphic Designer/Print Coordinator Position Summary

Work involves design meetings with senators and legislative service agencies to discuss graphic approach, design details, branding, printing, digital reproductive processes, and general reception work. Work also involves providing reception coverage, greeting visitors, and answering and directing phone calls. As tenure and experience increases, there would be a possibility of transitioning to a Senior position. The SCC Graphic Designer/Print Coordinator is expected to demonstrate rapidly increasing critical thinking/problem solving, increasingly complex and/or varied work responsibilities, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Information

Graphic Design
  • Develop initial concepts and carry projects through to final production for materials such as stationery, letterhead, envelopes, business cards, contact cards, group photos, and various maps.
  • When necessary, back up Caucus Graphic Designers with conferring with senators and legislative service agencies and offer professional design advice and recommendations regarding format, printing techniques, visual content, colors, and fonts to best support brand consistency and target audience objectives.
  • Design, print, and trim custom postcards for Senators’ district groups visiting the State Capitol, such as school groups.
  • Assist with the creation of web-appropriate spot graphics for social media posts, design logos, and retouching photography for quality final output.
  • Prepare press-ready files for offset and digital printing.
  • Complete in-house printing of graphic communications pieces and other color printing needs, including large format output and foam board mounting, large capacity color printing, booklet publication, short-run business cards, stickers and labels, and color flyers.
  • Design legislative booklets.
  • Assist with the web design, content, and update of the Senate Chief Clerk website.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Senate Chief Clerk’s office, including providing reception coverage, greeting visitors, answering and directing phone calls, and providing general support and customer service on behalf of the Chief Clerk to senate offices, partner agencies, and members of the public.
Print Coordination
  • Manage all SCC print projects sent to outside print vendors.
  • Estimate print projects, such as stationery and postcards.
  • Pre-flight final files before sending to print vendors.
  • Offer Caucus staff, Senate offices, and legislative service agency staff professional assistance and advice regarding Senate policies relating to print communications, when requested.
  • Serve as liaison for the SCC and, when requested, caucus staff with the print and paper vendors throughout the production of the project.
  • Work closely with Mailing Services Officer, Sergeant at Arms staff, and outside vendors to coordinate large mailings.
  • Assist the Senate Caucus Graphic Designers with the logistics of printing and mailing newsletters, as needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
  • Occasional to frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work in a nonpartisan environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of graphic design or relative experience.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including familiarity with word processing, database, spreadsheet applications, and graphic design software/hardware.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, with emphasis on InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and Flash.
  • Knowledge related to preflight and troubleshooting files.
