Senior Architect – Science & Technology (S&T)

Location: Madison, WI

Salary: $90,000.00 – $ (per year)

Position Type: Full‑time

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and documentation of S&T facilities, including laboratories, research buildings, clean rooms, and advanced manufacturing spaces.
  • Generate space programs, flow diagrams, site plans, and floor plans for client review and approval.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations and design reviews and respond to feedback to ensure the design progression according to the project schedule; ensure requirements are communicated to the full project team.
  • Collaborate with BW ’s internal team as well as external consultants on all aspects of the building design such as building common spaces, exterior envelope, chemical/code analysis, control areas, lab casework design, utility terminations, interior finishes, site plan, structural, mechanical systems, and electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards including life‑safety and laboratory guidelines.
  • Prepare documents and perform quality assurance reviews of project documentation at major project milestones.
  • Mentor less experienced staff and contribute to a collaborative and productive environment.
  • Participate in marketing or other activities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Licensed Architect in the State of Wisconsin.
  • 10+ years of professional experience, with demonstrated work on science and technology‑focused projects.
  • Proficient in Revit for all phases of design and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory planning and design plus technical building requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of building codes, accessibility standards, and life‑safety requirements.
  • Excellent listening, communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks and work effectively in a team‑based environment.
  • Experience with other markets such as higher education, healthcare, or government facilities is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sustainability strategies, high‑performance building design, or LEED projects.
  • Construction administration and field coordination experience.
