Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County is looking for a Teen Engagement Specialist, also known as a Teen Youth Development Professional. If you are an energetic motivator who likes to work with teens ages 12-18 yrs of age, please see the description below and apply!
Work Location: Erica And Anthony Fleming Club located at 2001 Taft Street, Madison, WI 53715.
Reports to: Program Director
Work hours: 3pm-8pm on Mondays. 4pm-8pm Tuesday-Friday.
POSITION SUMMARY & OVERALL OBJECTIVESThe Teen Youth Development Professional (YDP) plans and implements fun and engaging activities supporting BGCDC’s priority program areas;
Healthy Lifestyles, Character & Leadership, Sports & Recreation, Academic Success and the Arts. Additionally, the Teen YDP will implement grant funded initiatives within BGCDC‘s 5 key programs.
The Teen YDP will supervise and work with youth ages 12 to 18 and are responsible for creating an environment that supports positive youth development, serving as a role model and mentor and ensuring youth safety in an out-of-school environment.
Teen YDPs assumes a role with a variety of age groups or may be temporarily assigned to a specific group in the event of an absence. This position may include occasional evenings/weekend hours to accommodate special events, field trips, and community programs. The Teen YDP is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties to support the organization's objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe fundamental, crucial job duties; the functions the position exists to perform.
Prepare Youth for Success: 30%- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes that foster inclusivity and support members' needs.
- Provide positive guidance, role modeling, and daily support to members.
- Promote and ensure program participation.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, engaging activities for youth (12-18 years of age), ensuring academic success with grant-funded outcomes are being met.
- Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure high-quality programming.
- Always ensure the physical and emotional safety of members.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques.
- Always adhere to all regulations specified in DCF 252 and BGCDC policies.
- Provide site and sound supervision to members.
- Follow all tracking and attendance procedures.
- Administer first-aid and complete necessary documentation.
- Always uphold the appearance of the Club through a sanitary and organized program space.
- Maintain an environment that supports volunteers and community partners.
- Contributing to the Club climate for youth development includes program collaboration, attendance, and active participation in staff meetings and training (daily, weekly, and organizational).
- Participate in the Young Star program evaluation process.
- Maintain a professional appearance and communicate professionally to effectively represent the Boys & Girls Clubs brand.

RELATIONSHIPSInternal and external relationships are essential to the role.
Internal:As an integral part of our team, you will maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (both professional and volunteer), Club members, and your supervisor. This continuous communication ensures the seamless exchange of information, facilitates discussions on pertinent issues, clarifies guidelines and instructions, provides instruction and guidance, and offers counseling when necessary.
External:Externally, you will maintain contact as needed with various community groups, schools, members' families, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships and assist in resolving any arising issues. By actively engaging with these external partners, you contribute to creating a supportive network and ensuring the well-being of our members within the broader community.
