Assistant Professor in Metabolism Research

The Morgridge Institute for Research, in partnership with the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, seeks a joint tenure track assistant professor to lead a vibrant metabolism-focused research program. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative-minded scientists passionate about mechanistic understanding of metabolism, its dynamic regulation, and its connection with other cellular processes, such as signal transduction, transcription, cell death, proliferation, intercellular communication, migration and other functions.

We welcome investigation of metabolism in a wide range of contexts including, but not limited to, infection and immunology, development and aging, complex diseases, and metabolic disorders. This recruitment is part of the Morgridge Institute’s Metabolism Theme and the larger, UW-Madison campus-wide Metabolism Initiative that aims to enhance the pace, productivity, and international profile of metabolism-related research in Madison.

This position will include a joint appointment as an investigator at the Morgridge Institute for Research and as faculty member in the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry at UW-Madison. The Morgridge Institute is a private interdisciplinary research institute affiliated with UW-Madison, serving as a hub for investigators affiliated with multiple university departments to work collaboratively on fundamental biomedical questions, and as such offers an extraordinary interdisciplinary work environment.

As part of the School of Medicine and Public Health, the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry is a collaborative and research-focused department carrying out innovative research connecting molecular mechanisms to human health. UW-Madison is a world-class academic institution, where the metabolism community includes hundreds of scientists spanning diverse areas of biochemistry, organismal biology, genetics, nutritional sciences, and medicine, and is home to exceptional capabilities in proteomics, metabolomics, and computational biology.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a doctorate degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related field. Competitive applicants will have a proven track record of high-impact research related to metabolism, possess outstanding communication skills, and embrace a collaborative and interdisciplinary research culture.

Applicants should submit electronic copies of their curriculum vitae, a 2–3-page description of research vision and future research plans, a 1-page description of teaching philosophy and future teaching plans and should arrange for at least three referees to submit letters of recommendation.
