Purpose Of Position

The school nurse is a core member of the school’s integrated pupil services team:
This team works collaboratively, in partnership with teachers, administrators, families, and community organizations, to design and deliver a comprehensive, coordinated, and customized system of student support.

The primary purpose of this team is to create environments that maximize opportunities for learning and ensure that all students develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to achieve personal success as a college, career, and community ready individual.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of school-based health policies and procedures
  • Leadership and active participation on the Student Support and Intervention Team (SSIT)
  • Participate on the School-based Leadership Team (SBLT)
  • Develop Individualized Care Plans (IHP) and monitor interventions and outcomes
  • Develop Emergency Health Plans (EHP) for school staff to inform critical response and outline emergency procedures for students with life-threatening health conditions
  • Provide training and monitor the quality and safety of nursing interventions (including medication administration) delegated to non-nurse school staff
  • Serve as an active participation on Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 teams
  • Educate school staff about implications of chronic illness as it relates to school and academic success
  • Promote optimal attendance and engagement of students with chronic health conditions
  • Plan and implement systems for the safe and meaningful transitions of students with IHPs and EHPs between environments
