Help as a START Literacy Tutor this Spring (2026)
Goodman Community Center is offering a tutoring program that teams adult tutors with elementary youth. Teams of adults and youth will work to improve the young person's reading skills, with support from our Goodman Literacy Specialist.
Program OverviewThe program runs for a total of 13 weeks, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3-5pm. Spring semester runs January 27 - April 30, 2026.
The first 5 weeks consist of a Science of Reading evidence-based training where new tutors learn to use a toolbox of literacy resources and activities. The next 8 weeks involve tutoring elementary students in an after-school "Lit Club."
ResponsibilitiesAssist elementary students in improving reading skills during scheduled tutoring sessions.
QualificationsEnthusiastic about reading and literacy.
Available for the listed 6 hours per week.
