Overview

Teaching Faculty I role at University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with JR#, Teaching Faculty II; please note that only one vacancy exists. This position is a 9-month appointment. A start date on or before August 17, 2026 is acceptable.

Job Summary

This position will deliver lectures and provide comprehensive instructional program support services for courses and labs in the Pharm

D, Pharmacology/Toxicology BS, and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate programs (approximately 50% effort) and serve as an integrated course coordinator (approximately 50% effort) for the integrated pharmacology-pharmacotherapy course series. The individual will be expected to define, update, and deliver a high-quality curriculum using best practices in instructional design and delivery. Successful candidates will deliver content related to pharmacology while collaborating with other faculty across divisions in the School of Pharmacy to achieve instructional excellence in team-taught courses.

The individual will also interpret test scores and meet with students to assess/assist course progress and to provide advice and guidance when needed. To achieve the above, it is expected that the individual will participate in meetings or programs to learn of opportunities to advance instruction and present ideas related to instructional programs internal or external to the School of Pharmacy.

In some instances, it may be necessary to supervise, train, and evaluate teaching assistants (TAs).

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements
  • Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed
  • Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy
  • Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties
  • Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance
  • Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading
  • Serves as course coordinator for team taught courses, including overseeing McBurney accommodations
Department

The Pharmaceutical Sciences division in the School of Pharmacy is composed of approximately 22 faculty who teach basic sciences for the Pharm

D, Pharmacology/Toxicology BS, and Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate programs

Compensation

Qualified candidates can expect to earn between $65,000 and $75,000. Candidates who are highly qualified may earn between $75,000 and $85,000. Exceptionally qualified candidates with additional education, experience, and/or specialized skills may be considered at a higher salary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year experience in instruction in a laboratory setting
  • 1 year experience in instruction in higher education
  • 1 year experience in instruction in pharmacology
Education

Pharm

D or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Toxicology, or a related field; degree must be complete prior to position start date
