Double Bass Teaching Faculty
Location: UW‑Madison College of Letters & Science, Mead Witter School of Music
Job Summary: The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison invites applications for a 100%-time Double Bass Teaching Faculty. This non‑tenure‑track, one‑year temporary position will begin in fall 2026 and may be renewed or made permanent based on funding and department needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach double bass studio (classical and jazz) including doctoral students.
- Conduct a weekly studio class and an annual jazz‑area studio class.
- Lead jazz and/or classical ensembles each semester.
- Teach additional courses as workload allows.
- Hold regular office hours.
- Attend departmental meetings, participate in recruitment activities, undergraduate juries, graduate & undergraduate audition days, and ensemble placement auditions.
- Assist in recruiting for the double bass studio and supervise teaching assistants.
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and dissertation levels.
- One year of instructional experience at a college or university.
- Enthusiasm for innovative, collaborative learning environments.
- Evidence of an emerging national performance career in both jazz and classical genres.
- Experience recruiting for a double bass studio at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three years of instructional experience at the college level.
- Established national/international performance career.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
Education: Master’s degree required.
Compensation: $57,000 (9‑month) for highly experienced candidates, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
