Madison Metropolitan School District is seeking a highly motivated and energetic applicant for the school year. This role supports special education teachers by providing individualized support to 4K students with disabilities.

Purpose Of The PositionThis support staff position assists special education teachers with providing individualized support to 4K students with disabilities.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Provide instructional support and reinforcement to students in academic, behavioral and functional areas across school, community and vocational settings.
- Implement curriculum and behavioral intervention strategies under the direction of a teacher and/or related services staff.
- Transfer, apply adaptive devices, tube feedings, diapering, and provide bathroom assistance and mobility training.
- Maintain proper hygiene practices as prescribed by MMSD health policies.
- Maintain student confidentiality, including written records.
- Coordinate and communicate with other staff to provide feedback regarding student performance.
- Collect and document student progress data (academic and behavior).
- Implement positive behavior strategies, physical restraint/management, safe space procedure, and behavior intervention plans.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, playground, hallways, and field trips.
- Participate in on‑the‑job and district‑level training.
- Assist with loading and unloading school buses.
- Prepare instructional materials under a teacher’s direction.
- Maintain records and daily schedule with the case manager.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Provide individual and small group instructional reinforcement.
- Work independently with students in various settings under teacher direction.
- Keep accurate student data.
- Work with physically aggressive students.
- Work with students who are nonverbal or lack intelligible speech.
- Follow teacher direction, written plans, IEPs, and BIP.
- Communicate effectively with diverse students, staff, and community orally and in writing.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- Physical ability to walk, lift up to 50 lbs., climb, bend, reach, and kneel.
- Use basic computer skills (e‑mail, internet, word processing).
- Be mature, patient, and compassionate with all students.
- Experience working cross‑culturally and/or commitment to improve cultural competence.
- Associate’s Degree or 48 academic credits beyond high school or pass assessment taken onsite in lieu of college credits.
- Department of Public Instruction Certification (License) to work with disabled children.
- Associate’s Degree or 48 academic credits beyond high school.
- Fluency in Spanish and English.
- Prior experience in a public school setting.
- Experience working with children who have disabilities.
- Experience with non‑ambulatory and/or non‑verbal children.
- CPR certification.
- First aid training.
- Experience using e‑mail, internet, and word processing.

- May require working evenings, nights, and some weekends.
