The Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education department is committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities, as well as their families. We do this by preparing leaders, researchers, practitioners, and clinicians to serve as resources and advocates; to work cooperatively with individuals and families, public and private service agencies, and schools; and to actively participate in local, state, national, and international professional organizations.

Our programs prepare graduates for entry-level and leadership positions in a range of health, human services, and educational settings. Graduates are employed in a variety of positions including: program coordinators, therapists, advocates, transition specialists, employment specialists, case managers, rehabilitation counselors, counselor educators, special education teachers, teacher educators, administrators, and researchers. The Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education Department is looking for a motivated individual to supervise special education teacher candidates in their field experience placements.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and mentorship, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to provide constructive feedback.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor students in their field experience placements, providing guidance, support, and evaluation throughout their placement, and collaborate with instructors teaching seminar courses
  • May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
  • Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events
  • Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews
  • Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement

School of Education / Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education (RPSE)

Compensation

Minimum: $50,000 annually.
This position is a 9-month/academic pay basis position with an FTE range of 25-100%.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching in a classroom setting with K-12 special education students
  • Availability to work during the day when K-12 schools are in session.
  • Ability to attend occasional seminar sessions offered in the late afternoon and/or evening in support of students.
  • Current teaching license in K-12 special education required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three or more years of experience with teacher leadership and/or coaching
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Special Education, Social Work, or related field.
  • Master's Degree in Special Education, Social Work, or related field is preferred.
