Looking for not just a job, but a career in eye care? Eye care is a unique blend of the healthcare field, customer service, and retail. We are looking for an Optician Apprentice candidate to assist our busy and growing private eye care office. This 24 month program will start to teach you initial skills in the optical and healthcare field, building professional skills along the way to ideally reach the level of state‑licensed optician.
The ideal candidate will have a friendly and flexible personality while also being very perceptive and disciplined. You should be able to effectively multi‑task, memorize and provide accurate information, and troubleshoot obstacles. A customer‑oriented, patient‑centric approach is essential for all duties. The goal is to make all patients feel welcomed, comfortable, and confident in our office.
- Eyewear selection and ordering while understanding lens optics, prescription lens details
- Verification (via lensometry), dispensing, refitting, basic repairs of eyewear
- Troubleshoot patient concerns and complaints
- Clinical support: patient check‑in, preliminary/entrance examination testing
- Clerical support: answer telephones, schedule appointments, payment collection
- Insurance administrator support: prepare claims, generate invoices
- Proficiency learning general office software and hardware in a digitally integrated office
- Strong basic math skills and confidence
- Physical ability to repair, refit, and service prescription eyewear
- Flexibility with learning techniques (hands‑on, visual, self‑study)
- Commitment to exceptional patient care with personal attention
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities
- Strong and independent problem‑solving skills
- BCI/FBI background check for state‑licensed Optician Apprentices is required.
E‑entry level candidates can expect a starting wage of $18.00 per hour. Incremental pay increases by reaching milestones outlined in the 24 month training program which is available to start for candidates with some experience in health and/or eye care.
