Position: Student Laboratory Assistant (Work-Study Required)

What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
  • Prepare media for tissue culture and microbiology
  • Prepare laboratory solutions and maintain general laboratory upkeep
  • Clean and sterilize glassware and process microbiological cultures for safe disposal
  • Conduct weekly testing of laboratory safety equipment
  • Engage in light lifting of laboratory materials, such as boxes of plastics
What is Required (Qualifications)
  • Must be a current or incoming student at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison, continuing at least through Spring 2028
  • Federal Work‑Study funding is required for application
  • Must include a cover letter detailing GPA, major, expected graduation date, and confirmation of work‑study eligibility
  • Experience in sterile technique and general laboratory procedures is beneficial, though training will be provided
  • Willingness to work cooperatively as part of a team and comfortably engage in self‑directed tasks
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Classroom or work experience relevant to laboratory procedures
  • Strong teamwork skills and adaptability in a research environment
