Transcriptionist (31059) – Exam Works
We are looking for a Remote Transcriptionist to join our team. The position involves transcribing dictations and written letters, examinee assessments and reports, or other recorded data according to established policies and procedures. The schedule is Monday to Friday 10:30am – 7pm EST.
Essential Job Functions- Utilize dictation equipment, computer, and/or word processor to transcribe letters, medical/legal reports, or other projects assigned in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain a current list of reports transcribed on a daily basis.
- Prioritize work according to importance of report or physician needs.
- Recognize, interpret, and evaluate inconsistencies and discrepancies in medical dictation and appropriately edit, revise and clarify them without altering the meaning of the dictation or changing the dictator’s style.
- Recognize and report any problems, errors and discrepancies in dictation and/or examinee records that cannot be easily corrected to management for review.
- Return dictated reports in printed or electronic form to the Quality Assurance Department.
- Maintain current letterhead and signature blocks, updating information when required.
- Ensure all dictation meets company standards of quality and is completed within the established timelines.
- Maintain dictation equipment regularly and report any necessary repairs to management.
- Participate in various educational and/or training activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of one to two years of college or trade school training for medical transcription recommended.
- One year on‑the‑job experience within a medical or legal office preferred.
- Adequate knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medications and laboratory values.
- In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices; ability to utilize professional reference materials.
- Ability to transcribe and proofread medical dictation from originators with various accents, dialects and dictation styles.
- Excellent skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation and style.
- Qualified typist with a minimum of 150 lines per hour or 75 W.P.M.
- Maintain a quality assurance accuracy of 99%.
- Ability to operate dictation equipment, general computer, fax, copier, scanner, and telephone.
- Knowledgeable of multiple software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.
- Ability to follow instructions and respond to management’s directions accurately.
- Exceptional accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality.
- Exceptional communication skills; conveys necessary information accurately, listens effectively and asks questions for clarification.
- Works independently with minimal supervision, prioritizes work activities, and uses time efficiently.
- Maintains confidentiality.

- Stays focused and concentrates under normal or heavy distractions.
- Works well under pressure and/or stressful conditions.
