Position Overview

The General Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory directs day‑to‑day laboratory operations under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Operations or designee. Responsibilities include supervising and developing laboratory staff, ensuring quality standards are met, providing technical expertise, and serving as liaison to internal and external entities. The role oversees the quality management program and ensures compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.

This position supports our Oncodetect™ Molecular Residual Disease test and is located at 650 Forward Drive in Madison, WI.

Shift

Still being determined but will be Friday‑Monday 4X10 1st Shift OR Saturday‑Monday 3X12 1st Shift. This role is eligible for shift differential.

Essential Duties
  • Identify and understand regulatory requirements to ensure laboratory compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulations.
  • Maintain staffing, recruitment, training, competency evaluation, and ongoing educational development.
  • Supervise laboratory staff and provide on‑site consultation.
  • Evaluate equipment and supply needs, ensure expenses stay within departmental budget, and monitor supply usage and variances.
  • Review test volumes to maintain appropriate staffing and turnaround times.
  • Verify test procedures, establish test performance characteristics, and maintain quality management program parameters.
  • Resolve technical problems, ensure remedial action, and maintain corrective action records.
  • Ensure patient results are not reported until corrective actions are implemented.
  • Identify training needs and conduct competency evaluations for all personnel.
  • Maintain effective management abilities, supervise staff, manage budgets, and foster a culture of high performance.
  • Sign technical training records, design training checklists, and evaluate competency through direct observation and performance analysis.
  • Support and comply with company Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, uphold company mission and values, and maintain regular attendance.
  • Work nights, weekends, and as required; lift up to 40 pounds for 25% of the day; work seated or standing as needed; use laboratory equipment and perform repetitive tasks.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, lasers, heating elements, high‑speed centrifugation, and other laboratory hazards.
  • Travel between Exact Sciences locations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science.
  • 4+ years of experience in high‑complexity testing, including at least one year in molecular pathology methods.
  • 2+ years in increasingly responsible roles such as quality control, lead technologist, or technical specialist.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ year of laboratory supervision experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in high‑complexity testing.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized agency (e.g., ASCP) or equivalent state licensure.
  • 1+ year of experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and workflow needs.
  • 1+ year of experience working with Quality Management and knowledge of CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
Salary and Benefits
