Human Resources Generalist – 1.0 FTE

Under the general supervision of the Senior Executive Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist provides broad-based support to the Human Resources department by providing assistance across multiple functional areas, including Staffing, Recruitment, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Leaves, HRIS, and Employee Support. This position is designed to provide flexible, timely support, adjusting to shifting departmental needs and priorities. The HR Generalist plays an essential role in the delivery of high-quality, timely, and accurate HR services in support of MMSD’s staff, schools, communities, and scholars.

Compensation: $30.11/hour

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Staffing, Recruitment, and Licensing Support – 20%
  • Assist with recruitment processes and projects, including scheduling meetings with prospective candidates, supporting candidates through the application process, and communicating with candidates via phone, email, and in-person conversations
  • Support recruitment events by assisting with event preparation and planning and, when necessary, attending recruitment events as a District representative
  • Maintain both digital and printed marketing assets and materials
  • Support candidates with the completion of tasks required for consideration of employment, including language assessments and paraprofessional assessments
  • Employee Support – 20%
  • Support the substitute placement function by accurately entering and maintaining substitute data
  • Assist other team members and new hires with new employee onboarding activities
  • Review employee files to ensure accuracy and completeness of employee records and assist with employee record maintenance
  • Assist with the distribution of employee contracts and other correspondence
  • Provide backup coverage for the HR Reception function to ensure continuity of service
  • HRIS & Data Management – 20%
  • Perform data entry and data cleanup activities as assigned
  • Generate and distribute system reports as needed
  • Participate in testing, documentation, and updates to HR systems and processes
  • Contribute to operational reporting efforts
  • Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, and Leaves – 20%
  • Assist with payroll data entry, audits, and preparation of supporting documentation
  • Support benefits enrollment and changes by collecting, verifying, and accurately entering data
  • Assist with tracking employee leave requests ensuring documentation is complete and accurate
  • Assist with payroll deductions and other pay adjustments
  • Other Duties as Assigned – 20%
  • Performs other duties as assigned by executive leadership or their representatives or designees
  • Attend district and school functions that support MMSD’s strategic framework, initiatives, and core values
  • Complete any and all district required training
  • Build collaborative relationships with business partners
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Follow principles and practices that promote and advance anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Knowledge of core HR principles and practices across multiple functional areas
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Analytical and detail-oriented approach to reviewing data and documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft professional correspondence
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and other common software applications; ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Required Qualifications
  • One to two (1-2) years of experience in human resources or a related administrative function in a professional environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to read, write, and speak fluently
Physical and Working Conditions
