Carex is partnering with an Insurance Services industry partner to hire a Cloud Engineer. This is a contract to hire role with preference to folks local to the Madison, WI area.

The Cloud Engineer operates with minimal supervision in an agile team environment and plays a pivotal role in building, maintaining, and enhancing cloud-based infrastructure—primarily within AWS. This role is responsible for designing and deploying secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-hosted solutions, transforming legacy on‑prem systems into cloud-native architectures, and ensuring high system availability and performance through proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.

• Design, build, and deploy cloud‑hosted solutions, with a primary focus on AWS.
• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle related to cloud implementations.
• Lead and support cloud migration efforts from on‑prem to cloud‑native environments.
• Educate internal teams on new cloud technologies and practices, providing training as needed.
• Monitor cloud environments to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and cost‑efficiency.
• Investigate and resolve system outages and performance issues; assist in root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to advance knowledge of both legacy and emerging technologies.
• Create and maintain documentation of system configurations and processes.
• Perform regular system audits, including data backups and security checks.
• Offer advanced technical support to internal teams when escalations arise.

• Minimum of 2 years of intermediate IT experience, with 3+ years preferred in roles such as Cloud Engineer, System Engineer, or Cloud Administrator.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
• Proficiency in AWS cloud services; exposure to Azure, VMware (VMC, VCDR), Forge Rock, and Cloud Formation is a plus.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies.
• Experience transforming on‑prem environments to cloud-based architectures.
• Knowledge of system security best practices, data backup, and recovery strategies.
• Understanding of various operating systems and cross‑platform integrations.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with a collaborative and resourceful mindset.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Exposure to cloud‑compatible monitoring and logging tools.
• Agile development experience is preferred.
• Cloud certifications are a plus.
