Job Summary
The Office of Informatics and Information Technology (IIT) is seeking an outstanding candidate for a Data Engineer II position to manage and fulfill research data needs for a grant funded project. The responsibilities of the incumbent will include gathering requirements, developing code, retrieving data from Epic's reporting databases, transforming data, and maintaining documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and a professional, enthusiastic attitude.
This role is contingent upon external grant funding and is expected to last for two years.
We are currently seeking to fill two open positions: one with a primary focus on radiological image analysis and the other centered on data science. Each role offers unique opportunities to contribute to innovative research and development within our team.
Key Job Responsibilities- Implement data analysis steps in collaboration with data scientists, statisticians, and/or other researchers and may use technologies that support data at scale.
- Select appropriate technologies and optimize pipelines for performance.
- Serve as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison to key internal and external stakeholders regarding automated data management and analysis at scale for research, representing the interests of large‑scale data management and analysis for research.
- Organize both data preparation and analysis steps into reproducible pipelines that can process similar data sets automatically.
- Prepare data sets for current and future analysis, including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources and may use technologies that support data at scale.
- Develop, construct, test, and maintain architectures for large‑scale data management and analysis.
- Experience writing SQL code to extract and manipulate data from large relational databases.
- Experience writing Python code to manipulate and analyze datasets.
- Experience developing analytics dashboards.
- Strong organizational, analytical, verbal, written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)/Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- Certified in Epic Cogito / Clarity / Caboodle.
- Data science or biostatistics experience.
- Experience working with medical images and associated reports.
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining databases.
- Experience with clinical vocabularies (ICD, LOINC, SNOMED, CPT, etc.).
- Experience with clinical research common data models (OMOP, i2b2, PCORNet).
- Experience working with web APIs.
- Experience with FHIR and HL7 data feeds.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulations governing PHI.
- Experience reviewing other team members' technical work and providing constructive feedback.
The starting salary for the position is $80,000; negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
