The Division of Management Services, Bureau of Training and Staff Development is currently recruiting to fill a Correctional Officer Pre‑Service Director (Staff Development Program Supervisor) position. This position will be headquartered at the DOC central office in Madison, WI.
Position SummaryThis position oversees the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of training programs and methods for the Facility Staff Training & Support (FSTS) training program and security related training. The role prepares and manages a large Pre‑Service training budget, supervises Staff Development Program Specialists and provides assistance to the Staff Development Director. It also evaluates the effectiveness of the assigned training programs, maintains program standards, keeps leadership informed of progress and status, evaluates performance of Pre‑Service participants, conducts investigations and makes recommendations for program completions.
In addition to the oversight of the FSTS academy, the position is responsible for coordination and oversight for security related training, including but not limited to Security Basics and POSC for Non‑Uniformed Staff. The director works with Training Captains, assistant trainers and identified staff as a point person for security related training needs assessments and delivery for the Department. This includes working closely with facility staff to coordinate on‑the‑job (OJT) training, overseeing the administration of OJT and making recommendations for the interplay between training and institution needs.
The director also serves as the primary resource person for the assigned program area and represents the Department on cross‑divisional teams and committees.
The starting pay is between $57,574 and $94,993 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. The pay schedule/range is 81‑03. A 12‑month probationary period is required.

Job DetailsApplicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre‑employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre‑employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.
