Overview
Pre-Press Technician/Mounter (2nd Shift) – Madison, WI. The role supports the pre-press and press operations by preparing and mounting flexographic printing plates, ensuring proper alignment and quality to enable efficient press runs. Shift: 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Responsibilities- Plate Mounting & Setup:
Precisely mount flexographic plates onto printing cylinders or sleeves for Allstein and PCMC press operations, and other flexographic presses. Use mounting equipment and optical systems to ensure accurate registration and alignment. Inspect and verify plates against production specifications, color proofs, and job tickets. - Pre-Press Preparation:
Prepare and organize mounting tapes, sleeves, and cylinders prior to press runs. Coordinate with pre-press graphics to ensure proper plate layouts and separations. Maintain digital files, proofs, and supporting documentation for job setup. - Quality Control & Troubleshooting:
Conduct quality checks on all mounted plates for accuracy, damage, or defects. Troubleshoot pre-press issues to minimize press downtime and waste. Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy and productivity. - Maintenance & Recordkeeping:
Clean, label, and store plates, sleeves, and cylinders. Maintain accurate logs of mounted jobs, plate inventory, and material usage. Assist with preventative maintenance and care of pre-press equipment and tools. Maintain records of tests, inspection results, and observations. Notify production personnel of deviations in product quality and mark deviant products appropriately. Assist with set-up and clean-up of presses when machines are down.
Support site quality objectives and other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in printing or graphics preferred
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in pre-press, flexographic plate mounting, or related printing industry role
- Experience with wide-web flexographic presses;
Allstein or PCMC press experience preferred - Strong attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to interpret job tickets, proofs, and technical specifications accurately
- Computer literacy; familiarity with plate management software is a plus
- Physical ability to lift and handle printing sleeves/cylinders weighing up to 50 lbs
- Language
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; write routine reports and complete time cards and work orders. Ability to present information to individuals and groups. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including rates, ratios, and proportions; apply concepts of algebra and geometry to practical situations. - Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
