Job Summary

UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is excited to welcome dedicated veterinary technician assistants to our Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital. This vital role will support and assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with the 24/7 needs of the hospital. The anticipated schedule is flexible, made approximately one-month in advance. Shifts may include afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call shifts. Scheduling will be discussed during the hiring process.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions
  • Inventories and organizes supplies
  • Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
  • Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans
  • Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
  • Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
  • Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment

Compensation

The starting hourly rate for the position is $19.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications). Pay incentives for evening and weekend shifts of $2.00/hour night, $1.80/hour weekend, and the total you could earn is $3.80/hour for weekend and night differential on top of the base pay! 100% Flex position also available with an additional $2.00/hour shift differential in addition to the night and weekend differentials.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently
  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks
  • Experience working with large animals

  • Equine handling skills
