This Instrument Service Technician IV role is responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of laboratory instruments across clinical, research and development, manufacturing, and quality control laboratories. The role works with laboratory teams to ensure proper instrument function, troubleshoot system concerns, and maintain compliance with quality, regulatory, and operational procedures in regulated environments (e.g., CAP/CLIA and NYSDOH for clinical labs;
cGMP, FDA, and ISO for production and manufacturing labs). The emphasis is on delivering excellent service, building strong customer relationships, and timely issue resolution.
Base pay range
: $62,000.00/yr - $/yr
Position overview: The Instrument Service Technician IV performs installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of laboratory instruments, covering a broad set of equipment and settings. Responsibilities include commissioning new systems, system investigations, and contributing to cross-functional projects while ensuring compliance and quality management.

Qualifications:
Install and commission laboratory instruments, ensuring qualifications are completed per service policies and procedures. - Troubleshooting & Repair:
Diagnose and repair instrument failures, assist with root cause investigations, and escalate service concerns as needed. - Preventive Maintenance & Calibration:
Perform routine preventative maintenance and calibrations per service policies. - Documentation & Compliance:
Complete accurate service records, ensure documentation meets Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and comply with safety and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, FDA, ISO, CLIA); support the company’s Quality Management System (QMS). - Knowledge & Training:
Continuously develop expertise in servicing complex laboratory equipment and train others on proper use of equipment. - Teamwork & Communication:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and service engineers; communicate clearly with colleagues, management, and external vendors. - Flexibility & Adaptability:
Work independently or as part of a team, adapting to new information or unexpected situations. - Quality:
Operate under pressure, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and maintain quality and attention to detail.
Equipment Service Engineer
- Installation & Qualification – Install instruments and perform installation and operational qualifications to ensure proper function.
- Failure Diagnosis & Troubleshooting – Investigate and diagnose failures in laboratory instruments and equipment, performing necessary repairs.
- Preventative Maintenance & Calibration – Maintain a program for preventative maintenance (PM) and calibration to ensure equipment operates within specifications.
- Documentation & Compliance – Complete and submit accurate service records, ensuring compliance with OSHA, ISO, and FDA regulations; ensure all work and documentation follow GMP and GDP guidelines.
- Process Improvement & SOPs – Write and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance calibration and maintenance processes.

- Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance; ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed; may involve overtime and on-call duties.
- Demonstrate inclusion and travel as required (10-20% between local locations, 10-20% away from work location; may include overnight/weekend travel).
- Work with computer devices and peripherals; able to perform typing, manage software updates, and operate via phone and headset.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 40 pounds and standing/walking as part of a typical day.
