Job Summary

The Comparative Ocular Pathology Laboratory of Wisconsin (COPLOW) at the School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking three individuals to fill Research Specialist positions. These individuals will be responsible for a variety of tasks including but not limited to: sample receiving and sample preparation, data entry, filing slides and paraffin blocks, client communication, preparing mailings, document archival, monitoring report turnover, ordering recut slides/IHC for clients, assisting with organizational tasks, gathering follow‑up information for research projects, compiling reports and slides for pathologist projects.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials (10%)
  • Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results (10%)
  • Performs literature reviews and writes reports (0%)
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences (50%)
  • Provides operational guidance on day‑to‑day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers (10%)
  • Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders (20%)

Department: School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Pathobiological Sciences

Compensation: $44,453 - $60,000

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have experience in a diagnostic laboratory setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer candidates with veterinary experience, either clinical or laboratory.

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Veterinary Science.
