Description

This appointment is supported by the USDA-ARS Vegetable Crop Research Project located in Madison, WI. The fellow will engage in research to develop new techniques for evaluating plant chemical composition and perform genetic analysis of carrot nutrients, plant growth, and pest/disease resistance. The role may involve periodic travel to field sites within the U.S.

Learning Objectives
  • Understand how genetic analyses can be used to study plant chemical composition and disease resistance.
  • Develop hypothesis-based research plans to study plant development and disease.
  • Learn advanced statistical analytical techniques to evaluate genetic and genomic data.
  • Establish new phenotyping techniques to gather detailed crop production data.
  • Participate in carrot germplasm enhancement for stakeholder release.
Qualifications

Candidates should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field. Preferred skills include knowledge of genetics, plant breeding, molecular biology, biotechnology, statistical/bioinformatics tools, as well as hands-on experience in micropipetting, PCR, plant propagation, and seed production.

Additional Details

The appointment is full-time for one year, with a potential extension based on performance and funding availability. A monthly stipend will be provided, and U.S. citizenship is required to participate.
